Credentialling Overview
In Canada, physiotherapists are licensed or registered to practice by provincial/territorial regulatory colleges. Except for Québec, all colleges require internationally educated applicants to complete The Alliance's Credentialling process before taking the Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE). L'ordre professionnel de la physiothérapie du Québec conducts its credentialling assessments for applicants seeking to work in Québec.
Graduates of Canadian physiotherapy programs do not need to complete an Educational Credential and Qualification Assessment to take the PCE.
If you are currently enrolled in or have graduated from a university degree program outside of Canada, you are an internationally educated applicant. This includes Canadian citizens who have studied abroad. All internationally educated applicants must have their educational credentials and qualifications assessed to confirm eligibility to take the PCE.
The Alliance Credentialling and Examination processes do not give an individual the right to practice or register as a physiotherapist in Canada. Each college may have additional registration requirements which must be met to become registered. Full information on registration requirements in a province or territory can be obtained by contacting the college in the province/territory you will be working in.
