To improve processing times and reduce barriers for internationally educated physiotherapists, we are removing the requirement for clients to submit unsuccessful language test results.

Effective immediately, clients are only required to submit a language test when they achieve the required language test scores. CAPR can begin credentialling assessments before receiving a successful language test but cannot complete the assessment or distribute the final results letter until a successful language test has been received. 

To submit your language test electronically: 

1.       Log in to the client portal  

2.       Go to the  Apply tab 

3.       Click on the  Details button 

4.       Scroll down to the Digital Documents section 

5.       Click on the  Add New Digital Document button 

6.       Enter the required information.

CAPR is proud to launch a new tool to assist clients in preparing for the Written Component of the Physiotherapy Competency Exam (PCE).

The WC – Practice Exam is mapped to the PCE Blueprint 2018 and mirrors the content and structure of the Written Component. This resource is offered through our exam delivery partner, risr/assess, and is one of the best resources for your exam preparation, as it allows you to simulate the test-taking experience before exam day.

Clients are highly encouraged to take the WC – Practice Exam; the score report provided upon completion will contain the information necessary for you to assess your strengths and weaknesses across the different domains and areas of practice tested in the exam.

Understanding your performance in the WC – Practice Exam will help you to target your study efforts. As you work through the questions, you’ll also gain a better insight into the style, language, types, and format of questions that appear on the Written Component, which may improve your confidence in taking the exam.

Results of the Written Component were emailed to candidates yesterday (June 5, 2024).

CAPR will hold a virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.

The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) is investigating incidents of misconduct that took place in remotely proctored Written Component examinations of the Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE).

CAPR maintains strict security over PCE content before, during, and after the exam to eliminate unfair advantages among candidates.

CAPR will be implementing changes to further minimize the risk of misconduct, which will include an update to the Rules of Conduct and Examination Security and implementing a policy on breaks.

A reminder for all candidates taking the Written Component:

• You are expected to be aware of the legal, ethical, and professional implications of your participation in the PCE. You are expected to have read the Rules of Conduct and Examination Security, and to be familiar with these rules and the repercussions related to examination violations before taking your exam.
• Engaging any other person to take the exam on your behalf is a serious offence that will result in significant sanctions.
• Accessing reference materials during the exam, at any time, is prohibited. This is considered cheating.
• CAPR reviews candidate responses following all breaks to identify potential suspicious activity patterns. Suspicious activity patterns may include changing responses to previously seen questions or entering responses to flagged questions after a break.
• CAPR reviews candidate videos and screen recordings after the exam and will investigate suspicious behaviours.
• If suspicious activity patterns and/or behaviours are detected, your results will not be released until a full investigation is completed.

If you need to take a break during the exam:

• Do not change answers following a break. Review all questions you have answered and/or flagged for follow-up before taking a break. Changing answers following a break is considered suspicious activity.
• If you need to take a break other than for the washroom, consider staying in view of the proctor rather than leaving the testing environment.

Clients Can Now Submit PTE Core Language Test Results

We are pleased to announce that CAPR is expanding its language test options for credentialling clients.

As of April 23, 2024, clients can submit the PTE Core language test results to fulfill the language requirement.

Deadline to Submit Proposal is May 17

The Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators (CAPR) is looking to recruit a person or team to support our Evaluation Services Re-envisioned Project and the Development of New Credentialling Program.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 5:00 p.m. (EDT) on May 17, 2024.

CAPR staff have recently identified several cases where clients have been the victim of fraudulent translators in Ontario. These fraudulent translators have been impersonating legitimate translators, making it difficult for clients to know the translations are forged.

We advise clients to take the following steps to protect themselves against fraudulent translators:

1. Go directly to the website of the organization that certifies translators in your area. For example, in Ontario, the organization is the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO).
2. Go to the list of certified translators on that organization’s website.
3. Find a translator that is certified in the language your document is written in.
4. Contact the translator directly using the information provided on the organization’s website.

In Canada, these organizations oversee certified translators:

• Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC)
• Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA)
• Association of Translators and Interpreters of Saskatchewan (ATIS)
• Association of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters of Manitoba (ATIM)
• Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO)
• Corporation of Translators, Terminologists and Interpreters of New Brunswick (CTINB)
• Association of Translators and Interpreters of Nova Scotia (ATINS)
• Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ)
