CAPR will be introducing a new pre-approved credentialling pathway to the Physiotherapy Competency Examination (PCE). The Pre-approved Credentialling Pathway (PACP) simplifies applications from certain jurisdictions, allowing CAPR to focus time and resources on applicants who require more individualized assessment. Applicants who are educated in and registered to practice or are eligible to be registered to practice without restriction in Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the USA will qualify for this new pathway. The jurisdictions were selected based on a detailed analysis for comparability to Canadian physiotherapy practice.
The analysis focused on six key areas:
- PCE Performance
- Education and Training Standards
- Clinical Placements
- Clinical Practice Context and Autonomy
- Accreditation of Physiotherapy Programs
- Regulation and Licensing
More details regarding this pathway will be shared in January 2025.
What does this mean for CAPR credentialling clients?
Current applicants:
You do not need to take any action. If you qualify for the Pre-approved Credentialling Pathway, CAPR will update your Client Portal profile when the pathway launches and contact you directly regarding any outstanding steps. In the meantime, please ensure you have completed the Canadian health care context course (this is mandatory).
Canadian Health Courses:
- Physiotherapy Practice within the Canadian Health Care Context, Department of Physical Therapy, University of Toronto
- Physiotherapy Practice in the Canadian Healthcare System, Continuing Professional Education, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, University of Alberta
Transferring eligible applicants to the new pathway will happen over multiple weeks. If you see changes to your profile, we ask you to wait for an email from CAPR explaining the changes before contacting us. We appreciate your patience during this transition period.
Prospective applicants from pre-approved jurisdictions:
We recommend holding your application until the new pathway and requirements launch in January 2025. In the meantime, please ensure you have completed the Canadian health care context course (this is mandatory).
